The song I have chosen for the music videos assignment is 'Something Just Like This' by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay.
Analysing the track:
Meaning/Concept/Content: The meaning of the song is to always accept who you are, despite having any flaws or set backs. The song itself is about a relationship that does not have to be super humanly perfect.
Imagery: Judging by the lyrics, you can tell that someone thinks they are not good enough for their significant other. And that he is trying to compare himself so superheroes.
Narrative: There is not really a narrative to this song, as there is no official music video, it is difficult to say if it has a narrative or not.
Genre/Style: The genre and style of this song is Dance/Electronic.
Pace: It is quite an upbeat song, it is not too fast and it is not too slow either.
Duration: The song lasts 4:08.
Clothing/Costumes: During the whole music video, the band member use elephant costumes. There is only one part where you see the lead singer remove the mask, but he swiftly puts it back on.
Make Up: None used as they have masks on, you are not able to see that they have make up on.
Tone of existing videos: Coldplay's tone is very similar throughout their music and their music videos. A lot of their videos have them dressed in silly costumes like this, or even animated into creatures.
Locations in existing videos: The locations used in this video are unique and cannot be seen anywhere else in any of Coldplay's other music videos.
Concepts/Narratives: The narrative of this music video is that he is supposed to be an elephant and he is lost without his band members. He looks all over the place to try and find them.
Clothing/Costumes: Although they are animated, you can see that they have stuck with the animal theme, and it shows that paradise was not the first time they have been animals in their music videos.
Make Up: Yet again you unable to see any or even get a slight hint that there may be some used because this music video is completely CGI animated.
Tone of existing videos: In this music video there electronic elements involved, similar to my selected song, and paradise. They all have this in common, they all have some kind of electronic music involved in their music.
Locations in Existing Videos: Once again the locations are unique to the video, of course the video is animated but Coldplay have not used a forest in their music videos anywhere before.
Concepts/Narratives: There are not many concepts involved with the music video or even any narratives. It is simply Coldplay, animated as chimpanzees dancing in the forest with others.
